Peace Process Album by Queen Makedah

Makedah’s latest album, Peace Process, is a continuation of her work to bring peace, elevation and healing to the world through conscious reggae and worldbeat music in these troubled times.

Makedah’s current album, Peace Process, was conceived about seven years ago, while she was teaching and living in the Bay Area of California – Richmond and Oakland. Both cities were notorious for gang violence and high homicide rates for black and brown youth. Both a mother and a teacher, Makedah was deeply impacted by seeing headline after headline of young faces being violently snuffed out in the crossfire of ruthless gang violence and petty disputes.
The inspiration for the album was born out of these experiences.

Introducing New Song from Link&Chain's — "NEW DAY REVISITED"

The album delivers classic authentic reggae with songs like “Jah Is Great” — an epic chant; “I gave you Rose/Be My Lady” — a lover’s rock tune;
“Long Road”; “Again and Again/Over and Over”; and “New Day Revisited”

These songs reinforce the group’s traditions and conviction to the reggae genre.

Link&Chain is a unique musical group of 4 extraordinary dedicated Rastamen that have been performing/recording for 25 years: Dwight Campbell “Ta Seti”, Paul Williams, “Mirror”, Trevor Douglas “Kasha”, and the newest member of the group, O’Neil Griffiths.

The name is as unique as the group and came about through a process that involved high meditation and elimination. “Kasha” (Trevor) was the inspired member who first suggested Link&Chain and as explained by “Ta Seti” (Dwight), “Many links make up a chain and the chain is binding. Every member is a link, every fan is another link and this chain now will become a link to
world unity through music.” Reflection on the shackles and struggles of the Blackman was a part of the thought process that makes this name such a universal and striking one.
Link&Chain was originally a trio made up of well-intended youths who had music plastered all over them. Based in quiet Port Maria Bay, these youngsters were LINKED to the Island Recording Group Foundation by a thread that ran through their life, their music and their sound.

Hezron’s reggae take on The Hollies classic
“The Air That I Breathe” – just released by LTK20 RECHORDZ
In 1974 British band The Hollies rode international charts with an easy-listening ballad called The Air That I BreatheHezron Clarke was not born yet, but the singer knows a good song when he hears one. He also knows when it’s good enough to cover.
His version is co-produced by Lindel Thompson
and Willie Lindo.

Though I was never the kind of artiste that really cared for doing covers, I’m truly glad I did this one. It really came out great and I strongly believe it will be very impactful on opening up and reaching a newer and wider fan base,” said Hezron. Click Here to Read More

Celebrating Toots -Water Lane mural dedicated to late reggae pioneer

This article is part of a series presented by the Jamaica Observer highlighting the 10 murals which form an installation of public art along Water Lane in downtown Kingston.

When reggae music pioneer Toots Hibbert died on September 11 this year, it became clear to Kingston Creative, the non-profit arts organisation operating in the nation’s capital, that the life and legacy of this Jamaican had to be celebrated.

A major chunk of the mandate of Kingston Creative is the development of a vibrant art district and creative hub in the heart of the city. As part of the efforts to stem urban decay and breathe life into the city centre, Kingston Creative has sought to transform Water Lane, one of the main arteries, with the use of wall murals. With Toots’s passing a decision was taken to dedicate one of these murals to the late artiste. Enter artiste Joshua Solas.

R.I.P. Musician Dalton Browne Has Died

The renowned guitarist suffered a massive heart attack two Saturdays ago and was admitted to the University Hospital of the West Indies.
The family had made an urgent appeal for blood, as Browne was scheduled to undergo a quadruple bypass surgery on the weekend.
The surgery was however pushed up to earlier in the week.
Browne was the go-to guitarist for many industry personnel.
He got his early introduction to music in the 70s as part of the Browne Bunch.
The group comprised him and his brothers Glen (bass), Noel (keyboards), Cleveland (keyboards) and guitarist Danny.
He has worked with reggae singer, Freddie McGregor, as his musical director and also worked with Senegalese-American singer, songwriter, record producer, Akon on his album, Konvicted.

Toots will be laid to rest on Sunday, November 15

The long-awaited date for the interment of the body of reggae legend Frederick ‘Toots’ Hibbert at National Heroes Park in Kingston was announced on the weekend.
Toots will be laid to rest on Sunday, November 15, exactly one month after a thanksgiving service was held and an interment at Dovecot Memorial Park in St Catherine had to be abandoned because the burial order could not be found.

Toots’ body will be interred next to that of another reggae icon, Dennis Emanuel Brown, in the last burial spot left in the area reserved in the park for the burial of cultural icons.

Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport Olivia Grange revealed in a press release that a tribute concert, ‘Toots – Farewell to a Cultural Icon’, will be broadcast live on PBCJ, other broadcast media platforms, and will also be streamed worldwide on several social media platforms on November 15.

“It has been a very intense and sensitive process getting to this point. But thankfully, we’re now at a place where Jamaica can give one of her favourite sons the send-off he earned and deserves,” Grange stated.

Members of the public will be afforded an opportunity to pay their last respects at two public viewings which, Minister Grange emphasised, will be conducted under strict COVID-19 protocols.

The first viewing is set for next week Wednesday, November 11 at the Anglican Church Hall, May Pen, Clarendon, and the second takes place on Friday, November 13 at the National Arena in Kingston. The viewings will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“I am encouraging all Toots fans and all Jamaicans in general to utilise the opportunities provided to pay their final respects to him but to do so safely, bearing in mind the COVID-19 protocols, particularly around the restrictions on mass gatherings,” the minister stressed.

The grave-digging process has already begun. On Thursday, The Gleaner team ran into Anchard Anderson, who was on-site at Heroes Park, digging a grave right beside the spot where Dennis Brown is interred. Anderson told The Gleaner that he was preparing the ground to received the remains of the reggae legend.
